What are furnace electrodes?

Furnace electrodes – these are graphite electrodes. Graphite electrodes are heat-resistant graphite conductive materials and are important consumables in the steel and silicon industries.

Classification of graphite electrodes

Depending on the difference in power and current during use, they are manufactured using different raw materials and manufacturing processes. They can be divided into general power graphite electrode (RP), high power graphite electrode (HP) and ultra high power graphite electrode (UHP).

In conventional power graphite electrodes, it is allowed to use graphite electrodes with a current density below 17A/cm2, which are mainly used in conventional power electric furnaces for steelmaking, silicon refining, refining yellow phosphorus, etc.; in high-power graphite electrodes, it is allowed to use graphite electrodes with a current density of 18 ~ Graphite electrodes 25A/cm2 are mainly used in high-power electric arc furnaces for steel smelting; Ultra-high power graphite electrodes allow the use of graphite electrodes with a current density of more than 25 A/cm2 and are mainly used in ultra-high power electric arc furnaces for steelmaking.

What raw materials are needed for the production of furnace electrodes?

Small amounts of pitch coke can be added to conventional graphite power electrodes., and the sulfur content is the same as in petroleum coke, and in pitch coke cannot exceed 0,5%. Needle coke is also required in the production of high or ultra high power graphite electrodes. The main raw material for the production of aluminum anodes is petroleum coke, and the sulfur content is controlled in this way, so that it does not exceed 1,5-2%.

Process, as a rule, passes through 8 main processes, including calcination, mixing ingredients, pressing, object, question mark, secondary firing, graphitization and processing, to get the finished product. The preparation cycle for graphite electrodes is 90-120 days, of which the preparation cycle for graphite electrodes is 90 days, and the manufacturing cycle of graphite electrode connections – about 120 days.
